Sinopse.
Frances Houseman, conhecida como Baby, está passando férias com a família num resort em Catskills. 

Um dia ela descobre onde os funcionários do hotel se divertem e dançam e acaba se apaixonando por Johnny, o instrutor de dança. 

Quando a parceira de dança de Johnny fica grávida, ao se envolver com um dos garçons, Baby se oferece para aprender a dançar e substituir a moça. 

Mas o pai de Baby, quando descobre, não aprova, pois considera que Johnny é de outra classe social e por acusa-lo de engravidar sua parceira.

Val Kilmer e Billy Zane estiveram cotados para o papel de Johnny Castle, mas Kilmer declinou e Zane não era suficientemente bom dançarino.
